The short answer

Where does Scope 1 and 2 energy data come from?

In short: Termina collects the energy bills from every site, checks them, and turns them into Scope 1 and 2 figures with a trail back to the source bill. It is built for sustainability and compliance leads at multi-site groups. Free to start with your first 50 bills, or $0 when we run your procurement. Talk to us about more options.

From your bills. Electricity is your Scope 2, and the gas and LPG on your bills are part of your Scope 1. Energy bills will not be your whole Scope 1 inventory, since fuels and refrigerants sit outside them, but they are the part that is hardest to assemble by hand.

Termina is an Australian and New Zealand business energy procurement company and energy data platform. Its platform collects those bills, structures them and applies the right factor to each fuel. Keep your carbon accounting platform and export into it, or report from Termina directly.

What it does

How do I get energy data for AASB S2 Scope 2 reporting?

Let the bills come to you. Termina removes the manual part: finding the bills, keying them in, and proving where each figure came from.

Captures every bill

Authorise us once and bills from every retailer come straight to Termina, for every meter at every site.

Checks every bill before it counts

Each bill is re-added against its own total and tested against your contract where we hold it. Anything that fails is flagged, not hidden.

Applies the right factor

Scope 1 and 2 from actual consumption, with the right factor for each fuel and each grid.

Exports to your carbon accounting

Export kWh and MJ for every energy account in one click, so nobody uploads bills to your carbon platform by hand.

Who reports, and when

Who has to report under AASB S2, and when?

Entities that lodge financial reports under Chapter 2M of the Corporations Act report once they meet at least two of the three size tests for a group. NGER reporters are captured by Group 1 or 2 whatever their size.

GroupSize tests (meet two of three)Also capturedFirst reporting period
Group 1$500M+ consolidated revenue, $1B+ gross assets, 500+ employeesNGER reporters above the publication thresholdFinancial years starting on or after 1 January 2025
Group 2$200M+ consolidated revenue, $500M+ gross assets, 250+ employeesOther NGER reporters, and asset owners with $5B+ under managementFinancial years starting on or after 1 July 2026

The full thresholds and checklists are in our mandatory climate reporting guide.

How bills get in

Does an energy management platform need hardware at my sites?

Not this one. Termina runs on what your retailers already produce: you upload once, authorise us once, and every bill after that arrives by itself. The first automatic bill takes 30 to 45 days.

01

Upload once

Upload a bill, or a year of them, as the PDF from your retailer. No template and no reformatting, and you see your data the same day.

02

Authorise once

Sign one authority and we update the billing contact with each of your retailers, so every bill after that comes straight to Termina.

03

Bills arrive by themselves

Retailers usually confirm within about a week. The first automatic bill lands on your next billing cycle, 30 to 45 days after you authorise us.

04

Checked, then exported

Every bill is re-added against its own total, tested against your contract where we hold it, and flagged where it needs review. Then export it, or report from it.

Nothing about your supply changes. A new billing contact is not a new retailer. See how the free tier works.

Pricing

Is there a free energy bill platform?

Yes. Free to start with your first 50 bills, or $0 when we run your procurement. Talk to us about more options.

Free when we run your procurement

$0 for the platform when Termina runs your procurement. Every site, bill and fuel in one place, bills validated, and data that stays yours.

Free to start

Your first 50 bills are free. That is roughly a year of monthly bills across four sites, enough to test the data on your own portfolio before you commit anything to it.

More options: talk to us

Want the platform without procurement, or more than your first 50 bills? Talk to us about the options. Nothing is charged without you agreeing to it first.

Questions

What else do teams ask about energy data for AASB S2 Scope 2 reporting?

What is AASB S2?

AASB S2 Climate-related Disclosures is Australia's mandatory standard for climate-related financial reporting. In-scope entities disclose climate-related risks and opportunities across governance, strategy, risk management, and metrics and targets, including Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions, with Scope 3 to follow.

What emissions do I need to report in year one?

Scope 1, the direct emissions from sources you own or control, and Scope 2, the indirect emissions from the electricity you buy, measured location-based. Scope 3 has a one-year grace period and becomes mandatory from your second reporting period.

Does AASB S2 apply to private companies?

Yes. It applies to any entity with Chapter 2M reporting obligations that meets the thresholds, whether listed or unlisted, public or proprietary.

How do I calculate electricity and gas emissions across multiple sites?

Multiply the electricity used at each site in kWh by the location-based emission factor for that state's grid, published each year in the National Greenhouse Accounts Factors. Gas and LPG take the factor for the fuel. Across many sites the hard part is consolidating every NMI and MIRN, lining billing periods up with your financial year, and separating grid imports from on-site solar. Termina does that and keeps the audit trail.

Why not use a spend-based estimate for Scope 2?

A spend-based estimate rises when prices rise, so you can end up reporting emissions that never happened. Termina uses the actual consumption on each bill, so the figure moves when your usage moves and traces back to a bill.

How do I report on-site solar and batteries?

Solar you use on site cuts what you import from the grid, so it cuts your Scope 2: you report net grid consumption times the relevant factor. Exported solar is not counted in your Scope 2. For batteries, grid-charged energy carries the grid factor and solar-charged energy carries effectively zero, so you need interval data that separates grid, solar and battery flows.

Does Termina make me AASB S2 compliant?

No software makes you compliant on its own. Termina gives you audit-ready emissions data for AASB S2 reporting: Scope 1 and 2 by site and period, the right factor applied to each fuel, and every figure traced back to the bill it came from. We are not your carbon accounting software or your auditor. We supply the data underneath both.

How much does the Termina platform cost?

Free to start with your first 50 bills, or $0 when we run your procurement. Talk to us about more options. Nothing is charged without you agreeing to it first. The details are on our pricing page.

Do I have to upload every bill?

No. Upload your first bills if you want to see the data today. Once you authorise us, we update the billing contact with each of your retailers, so every bill after that comes straight to Termina. The first automatic bill takes 30 to 45 days, because it lands on your retailer's next billing cycle.

Does it work in New Zealand?

Yes. New Zealand sites are keyed on ICP, and the same dataset supports XRB CS1 disclosure. Talk to us if you have sites on both sides of the Tasman.
