The manufacturing problem

Why do manufacturers rarely buy energy well?

In short: We take every site’s electricity and gas to the whole market and keep each one on the lowest rate we can find. It’s $0 to join, we’re paid only from a share of the savings we find, and 10,000+ business locations already buy their energy this way. Large sites are tendered at every renewal, from a single plant to a national footprint.

For a manufacturer, energy is a production input. How a plant uses it decides what it should pay.

Demand set by the busiest hour

Large sites usually pay a demand charge on top of the energy they use, set by their highest draw in kW or kVA. One shift where every line starts at once can set that charge for the month.

Most plants are large market

A plant that uses more than its state’s large-market line is priced through a tender, not off a published offer. When that tender goes out matters as much as which retailer wins it.

Shifts that don’t fit the tariff

Plants running nights, weekends or continuous shifts use energy at hours most business tariffs aren’t built around. Gas for process heat, boilers and ovens adds a second contract to manage.

The process

How does energy procurement work for a manufacturer?

Start with one site, or every site

Send us a recent electricity and gas bill for each site. We tell you which sites are small market and which are large market.

Large sites go to tender at renewal

Large-market sites are tendered to the whole market at each renewal, timed around market conditions, and the rate is locked on the day the contract renews. Smaller sites are reviewed every month.

You approve before anything changes

You see the saving for each site and the rate it will pay, already after our share. Nothing switches until you approve it.

We hold every renewal date

We manage the switch with the retailer, with no interruption to supply. Then we hold every contract end date across your sites, so nothing rolls onto a default rate.

One plant or many

What does a single plant get, and what does a group get?

For a single plant

$0 to join. We refuse retailer commissions. Our only income is a share of the savings we find you, and every rate we quote is already after our share.

Tendered at every renewal. A large-market site goes to the whole market each time its contract renews, never part way through a contract.

Gas reviewed with the electricity. Process gas is reviewed alongside the electricity, so it doesn’t sit on a rate nobody has checked.

For a group of sites

One process for every site. Every site is reviewed, tendered and watched the same way, whichever state or network it sits in.

Every renewal date held. Sites renew on different dates with different retailers. We hold every one of them and start each tender in time.

Every bill, site and contract in one place. The platform keeps every site’s energy data in one view, across retailers. First 50 bills free, and free when we run your procurement.

Run several sites? Book a portfolio review and we’ll look at every site at once.

Questions

What else do people ask about manufacturing energy?

Is my site small market or large market?

It depends on the state and how much electricity the site uses in a year. The line is 40 MWh a year in Victoria, 100 MWh in New South Wales, Queensland and the ACT, and 160 MWh in South Australia. Above the line, a site is priced through a tender. Send us a bill and we’ll tell you which one it is.

Can you move us part way through a contract?

No. A large-market contract runs for a fixed term, so we tender at renewal and lock the new rate on the day the contract renews. What we manage is the timing, so the tender goes out when it should.

Can you guarantee a saving on a large site?

Nobody can promise what a tender will return. What we commit to is taking the whole market to tender at every renewal and putting the lowest rate in front of you before anything is signed.

Do you cover gas?

Yes. Gas for process heat, boilers and ovens is reviewed alongside electricity.

What does it cost?

$0 to join. We refuse retailer commissions, and our only income is a share of the savings we find. Every rate we quote is already after our share, so the number you see is the number you get.

Our sites sit under different companies. Can you tender them together?

Sites owned by one legal entity go to market together as one portfolio. Sites held by separate companies each get their own pricing round and sign their own agreement, and every one of them buys with the leverage of 10,000+ business locations behind it.

Can we see every site’s energy in one place?

Yes. The platform keeps every bill, site and contract in one place, across retailers. The first 50 bills are free, and it’s free when we run your procurement.
