The Footscray laundromat problem

What makes laundromat energy expensive in Footscray?

Long hours, heavy machines and often gas as well as electricity. A laundromat’s bill is set by when it uses energy as well as how much.

Machines run all day

Washers, dryers and hot water run from open to close, seven days a week. A tariff built around office hours can be the wrong one for a laundromat.

Hot water and dryers on gas

Many laundromats heat water and run dryers on gas, and the gas contract gets less attention than the electricity. When it ends, it rolls onto whatever rate the retailer sets next.

Large market starts at 40 MWh in Victoria

A site in Victoria using more than 40 MWh of electricity a year is large market. Those sites are priced through a tender, and the offers published online don’t apply to them.

Every bill checked line by line

Billing errors happen, and they are easy to miss across a busy month. Termina checks every line on every energy bill your Footscray laundromat receives, against your actual usage and the rates you are contracted to pay, so you only pay what is due.

Who pays your adviser

How do energy brokers get paid?

Most are paid a commission by the retailer that wins your contract, usually built into the rate you pay. Termina refuses retailer commissions; our only income is a share of the savings we find.

Questions

What do laundromat owners ask before joining?

How much does Termina charge a laundromat?

$0 to join. On small business plans, the only way we get paid is a share of what we save you, split 50/50. No saving, no fee. Our fee sits inside your rates. For large-market sites: No fee to run the tender. Once you switch, 1% of your bill (capped at $80 a month) plus 10% of what we save you.

Can one retailer cover all my stores?

It can, but one retailer is rarely the cheapest for every store, because rates vary by network area and tariff. We price each store on its own and keep every bill in one place on the platform.

I already use a broker. Can I still switch?

Yes. We check each store’s contract end date and any exit fees before we recommend a move, so you know what leaving costs before you decide.

My energy contracts are still running. Is it worth joining now?

Yes. We record each store’s contract end date, so nothing rolls onto a higher rate when a contract ends.

What if you can’t find a saving for a store?

On small business plans, that store pays nothing, and it stays in the review cycle for when the market moves. On small business plans in Australia: if no better rate is found in 12 months, you get $100 off your next bill.

Will my supply change when I switch retailer?

No. The energy, the meter and the network stay the same, and there is no break in supply. The retailer name on the bill is what changes.
