The franchise problem

Why do franchise networks rarely buy energy well?

In short: We review every store in your network against the whole market and keep it on the lowest energy rate, automatically. It’s $0 to join, we’re paid only from a share of the savings we find, and 10,000+ business locations already buy their energy this way. Each franchisee keeps their own account, and the whole network runs on one process.

Energy is one of the few costs every store carries and almost no network buys together. The reasons are structural, not a lack of effort.

The franchisor doesn’t hold the bills

The franchisor sets the brand standard, but each franchisee holds their own energy account, signs their own contract and pays their own bill. Nobody negotiates for the network.

Every store renews on a different date

Contracts end at different times with different retailers. Stores roll off their contract rates one at a time, and nobody is watching when they do.

A different network for every site

Stores in different regions sit on different distribution networks, tariffs and meter types. A rate that suits one store can be the wrong rate for the next one down the road.

The process

How does energy procurement work for a franchise network?

Start with one store, or the whole network

A franchisee can see an estimate for their own store in 60 seconds. A franchisor can bring us the network, and we review every store that opts in.

We review every store against the whole market

Each store is benchmarked on its own tariff, distribution network and usage, then priced as part of a buying group of 10,000+ business locations.

Each franchisee approves their own store

Every franchisee sees the saving for their store and the rate they’ll pay, and approves the switch themselves. The contract stays in the franchisee’s own name.

We handle the switch, then keep watching

We manage the switch with the retailer. Nothing changes at the store and supply isn’t interrupted. Then we keep reviewing prices and hold every renewal date across the network.

Both sides of the network

What does the franchisor get, and what does each franchisee get?

For the franchisor

One process for the whole network. Give franchisees a vetted way to buy energy, without taking on their contracts or their bills.

New stores start on the right rate. A new location joins the network’s process from day one, instead of starting on whatever default rate the local retailer offers.

Every bill, site and contract in one place. The platform keeps the network’s energy data in one view, across retailers. First 50 bills free, and free when we run your procurement.

For each franchisee

Your account, your decision. The contract stays in your name. You see the saving and the rate, and you approve the switch yourself.

$0 to join. We refuse retailer commissions. Our only income is a share of the savings we find you, and every rate we quote is already after our share.

Kept on the lowest rate. We review your prices every month, and if there’s anything cheaper we switch you. On small business plans in New Zealand: if no better rate is found in 12 months, you get $100 off your next bill, credited in NZD.

Questions

What else do people ask about franchise energy?

Does the franchisor have to sign up before franchisees can join?

No. Any franchisee can review their own store today. When a franchisor brings the network to us, franchisees still keep their own accounts and approve their own switches.

Whose name is the energy contract in?

The entity that pays the bill, which is usually the franchisee. Every contract is signed by that entity, in its own name.

Can you tender the whole franchise network together?

Stores owned by one legal entity go to market together as one portfolio. Stores held by separate franchisee entities are each contracted in their own name, and every one of them buys with the leverage of 10,000+ business locations behind it.

What does it cost a franchisee?

$0 to join. We refuse retailer commissions, and our only income is a share of the savings we find. Every rate we quote is already after our share, so the number you see is the number you get.

Will stores be dealing with a new retailer every few months?

No. Each franchisee approves the model once and we handle any switching from there. Nothing changes physically at the store and there’s no interruption to supply.

What if you can’t find a saving for a store?

Then that store pays nothing, and it stays in the review cycle for when the market moves. On small business plans in New Zealand: if no better rate is found in 12 months, you get $100 off your next bill, credited in NZD.

Can we see energy across the network in one place?

Yes. The platform keeps every bill, site and contract in one place, across retailers. The first 50 bills are free, and it’s free when we run your procurement.
